As I depart the Business Mission Area team for Senior Service College, I wanted to share some thoughts and observations about the PEO EIS mission and how our great organization can maintain its unique relevancy.

During the past five years, I have witnessed significant positive changes in our collaboration and communication that have enabled success.

Our Business Mission Area team established a foundation for digital modernization. People who have worked with me know that I like to develop a strategy and keep a low profile while pushing the limits. The Business Mission Area made some crucial moves and calculated risks that set us on a path toward significant modernization.

Our team initially focused on business process reengineering, IT service management and proving the utility of cloud computing. These elements were necessary to build a foundation for enterprise resource system modernization. The decision to forgo another lifecycle replacement of expiring hardware and move forward with migrating and transitioning to cloud infrastructure was successful due to our team, programs and leadership support.

Given the cloud migrations of enterprise resource planning programs, the horizon of a data mesh and architectures, Enterprise Business System - Convergence, data analytics and artificial intelligence lie ahead to improve the Army's readiness. This transition will require drastic changes in education, training, management and, most importantly, how we develop an acquisition strategy and contract to ensure a delivery that emphasizes efficiencies and cost savings.

The funding cuts in fiscal years 2023 and 2024 will ensure a continued focus on the importance of an enterprise approach requiring teamwork and collaboration, and reinforcing unity in the enterprise application of technologies, while operating within the funding provided. Our team must continue to develop capabilities that enable our finance and logistics system users to meet their mission requirements with better reliability and improved user experience.

Based on my time here, I've developed five recommendations to help teams excel:

  1. Identify the gaps and apply the lessons learned to improve results.
  2. Create strategic partnerships to share and solve challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Share the data from key performance indicators, including improvements and impacts.
  4. Apply the concepts of Financial Operations to help procurement teams tightly control spending.
  5. Apply patience and understanding through teamwork and collaboration! Being a good human will help ensure a healthy work environment and culture to achieve the mission and goals. This work can be stressful enough, so don't stress each other out too!

Thank you for allowing me to support the PEO EIS mission! It is vast, complex and unique. Do not let anything get in the way of enhancing the Soldier user experience!
