Aviation Logistics: Mr. Danny Mahan


Mr. Danny Mahan

Mr. Danny Mahan has over 29 years of combined aviation and missile acquisition experience, both with the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.  Mr. Mahan holds a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from the University of Arkansas. He also has a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Florida.

In 1988, Mr. Mahan began his career in federal government civilian service accepting an engineering position at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.  Assigned to the Air Force’s Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile System Program Office, he spent the next 4 years working design, test, production and modernization of the missile system.

In 1992, Mr. Mahan accepted a position with the U.S. Army and moved to Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. For the next 10 years, he worked various missile, aviation, and DARPA programs for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center.

In 2002, Mr. Mahan transferred to the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Project Office, where he led engineering production for the new Shadow Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.    While in UAS, he was Board selected to the Competitive Development Group and was subsequently assigned to the Aviation Future Force Product Manager working the unmanned air segment of Future Combat Systems.   He went on to become the Assistant Product Manager for the Architecture and Technology Branch.

In 2004, Mr. Mahan was promoted to the NH-04 level and became the Lead Rotor Systems Engineer for the Apache Helicopter Project Office.  During his 10 years in Apache, he continued as the rotors lead, while taking temporary assignments as Aircraft Engineering Branch Chief and Deputy Product Manager for the Apache Block III program.

In 2015, Mr. Mahan became the Deputy Product Director for the Aviation Networks and Mission Planning (ANMP) Product Office.  One year later, he was asked by the AS Project Manager to assume the role of Deputy Product Manager for the Aviation Mission Equipment (AME) Product Office.

Mr. Mahan currently serves as the Product Director for Global Combat Support System (GCSS-Army) Increment 2 Aviation Logistics, where he manages the cost, schedule, development and evolution of a major upgrade to the Army’s Tactical Logistics Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This upgrade will be fielded to all of Army Aviation and provide new capability to 30,000 additional Soldiers.

A native of Clinton, Arkansas, Mr. Mahan has been a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps since 2002 and has earned Level III DAWIA certification in Program Management, Engineering, and Science and Technology Management. He is a graduate of Defense Systems Management College Executive Program Manager’s Course. Mr. Mahan and his wife, Shelley, reside in Madison, Alabama.
